Wednesday,29 December,2010

I spent the day at Duke today getting examined and getting an update from my heart surgeon. I have been discouraged recently about my prospects, but he and his nurse were very encouraging. He told me not to give up because I came within two hearts recently of getting the transplant.

He and the nurse assured me that money and insurance has nothing to do with who gets the heart. They assured me that the selection is based on a computer match between tissue and antigens, and patient need. In other words, the patient closest to death gets priority if all other criteria are equal.

They assured me they maintain a fair system.
I trust them completely.

The bad news is that I may have to be on life support before getting to the top of the list.
It's all scary, but there is nothing to do except accept it and try to have some sort of quality of life.

I'm grateful for every heartbeat the Master has allowed me.
